Measuring your window

Important things to consider when measuring your window:
  • Always measure to the nearest millimetre (0.1cm)
  • It is a good idea to draw a diagram of your window and write the measurements on it as you go.
  • Make sure height and width measurements do not get mixed up (it is easily done!)
  • Use a metal measuring tape to increase the accuracy of your measurements.
You will also need to decide whether your blind will be hung on the inside or the outside of the window recess.

Hanging inside a recess:
Inside mounts are recommended where ever possible. This is because they produce a neater look. When measuring for a blind to be hung inside the window recess it is important to measure the exact window size. Measure the width of the window in three places, then use the narrowest measurement as the final measurement. Do the same for the height, take three measurements but this time use the longest measurement as your final measurement.

Hanging outside a recess:
Blinds hung outside of the window recess can make the window appear larger and also help to disguise unattractive window frames. When you are measuring for a blind that will be hung outside the window recess add around 80mm (8cm) to every side. This is to minimise light gaps and add to your privacy.
